wow! Having lived in London, UK for the most of my life I have to say that I’ve craved to live in a place like Eugene. Often, visitors to London comment on the ‘fast pace’ or the inpenetrable stress levels which we Londoners seem to carry around with us - on the streets, on the tube and everywhere we travel.

This ’stress’ is often mistaken for misery - and sometimes, this is spot on. I find myself desperate to get out of this mindset and try to focus on the little nuggets of joy that Life throws our way everyday. It could be the fact that somebody stting opposite me on the bus exchanges some random words of kindness or it could be the cheeky tone of voice that the train announcer used when announcing that the next depature has been delayed by another half an hour! Sometimes, a simple smile from a stranger can make my day - not because I expect it to grow into a lifelong friendship, but because it offers me a glimpse into other people’s mindsets and ultimately reminds me that life just ‘aint all that bad.

So, to the people of Eugene… there’s a piece of you all living in every city in the world, and for that - I thank you.

Just writing this comment makes me feel happy. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!
